Crafty Girl

Hi! My name is Barb from Crafty Girl blog and I am so excited to be here on the Robert's blog today! I am passionately addicted to scrapbooking, cardmaking and anything that has to do with paper crafts! Today, I would like to share some of my favorite papercrafting tools that I used on this layout I made of my daughter....

The first tool I would like to show you is the Tim Holtz paper distresser. Roberts sells it for $5.50 and it is worth every penny! (This product is only available online.)

1. I started with a plain piece of cardstock.
2. Gently rub the tool along the side of the cardstock
3. When you are finished, your paper will look like this
4. I love the distressed edge it gives to papers in my layout.
Another tool that gets a work out in my craft room is by Basic Grey Rub On Roller Stylus Tool. I LOVE how easily this transfers rub ons onto your paper and pictures. It is smooth and works far better than wooden sticks! It is sold at Roberts for $7.00

1. This is what the tool looks like.
2. Lay your rub on down and then run the roller side of the stylus over the rub on.
3. Lift the clear sheet off and the rub on stays put!
I am a girl who loves to add bling and sparkle to my pages so the Imaginisce i-Rock has become a tool I can't live without! The gems and glam rocks are far more affordable than the sticky gems you buy in packs and once the gem is heat set, it is not going to come off! I have even used this to set gems on fabric and it works great!

1. Here is the tool with a few of the gems you can purchase to use with it.
2. Put the gem where you want it.
3. Hold the i-rock tool on the gem for a few seconds.
4. The gems added a little sparkle to the rub on flourish as well as the butterflies on the layout!
I recently purchased the i-Top tool and fell in love instantly! There are so many possibilities with this versatile tool! You can even make jewelry with it! On my layout, I used both paper and fabric to make brads for the centers of my handmade flowers!

1. The i-Top can be used with paper and fabric and you can make different size brads with it.
2. When using the i-Top with paper, I prefer to use the paper punch (sold seperately) because it cuts the perfect size and makes the perfect brad.
3. Put the top of the brad in, then slide in the paper and squeeze. Add the bottom piece of the brad and squeeze again.
4. Out comes the perfect brad that perfectly matches the paper in your layout!
I also used it with fabric.

1. Instead of punching out the fabric, I just simply cut out a square.
2. Place the fabric in like you did the paper and squeeze.
3. Trim the fabric with a pair of scissors.
4. This is what it will look like before you put the back on it.
Here are how the brads were used in the layout. The purple centers were made from papers and the green one was made from fabric. I just glued some ribbon on a cardstock circle and put the brad in the center.

As if that isn't enough... I can't leave without telling you about Ranger Perfect Pearls ($14.99. This product is available online only). I love this product because it can be used in so many different ways. The first way is to add some powder and water to the mini mister (Also sold at Robert's for $4.99 - 3 pack). The more powder you use, the more intense the color. This allows you to control how intense the color is on your project.

1. I used a doily, that I sprayed with two different colors of Perfect Pearls.
2. I started with the gold. The photo doesn't show it well, but it gives the doily a nice glimmer.
3. I wanted to add a second color so I also sprayed it with the bronze color.
4. Here is how it looks in the completed layout.

If you look at the letters in my title, you will see that I used the Perfect Pearls in a different way. After I painted the letters brown, I brushed on a little of the bronze powder. I did not completely cover the letters because I wanted to give it more of a distressed look.

And there you have it... all the tools that help me create my layouts! Thank you Roberts for letting me share my favorite toys! Roberts is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog, Crafty Girl. Click HERE for details on how you can win!

This next frame was made with lace cardstock, Prima flowers, ribbon, scrapbook paper and our Kaiser rhinestones.

Valentine "Faux Mantel"

Hi! I am Stacy from Not JUST A Housewife. I am going to show you how I decorated my "faux mantel" for Valentines Day.

I went to Roberts to pick up some supplies. I ended up with styrofoam balls, a terra cotta pot, a vase, craft paint (including glitter paint), wood letters, and a big bag of wooden hearts. Things I already had from previous visits were: a bag of moss, wood frame and red paper.

I painted the wood letters red. Then I painted some of the hearts hot pink, some light pink, some red, and most of them grey. I painted them grey because the glitter paint is really clear with glitter in it. The bare wood will show through unless you paint it. There were plenty of hearts in the bag. My kids sat at the table with me and painted some for fun. P.S. I used my 40% off coupon to buy the bag of hearts :)

Then I put them in the vase. I like this simple one but you could use any container or bowl.

For the rose topiary, I put one of the styrofoam balls onto a skewer so I could paint the whole thing without getting it on my hands. Then I put it in the pot sticking up so it could dry.

For the flowers I made paper rosettes. I know there are probably a million and one tutorials out there on how to make these, but here is mine.

Cut out a small circle. Then cut it like this.

Start rolling it up.

The round tab in the middle that becomes the end as you roll is what you need to put hot glue on. I found since I was working with card stock paper, that it was necessary to put a little in the hole as well.

I flipped it over and used a pencil to push all the layers into the glue. This step may not be necessary with regular paper.

And there you have it!

Once they were made I started gluing them onto the ball.

I painted the post gray as well and then applied 2 coats of the glitter paint. I wanted it to be really shimmery!

I had forgot to buy some green floral foam so I improvised and used another styrofoam ball. I used a little hot glue to help hold it in place.

I could have painted the skewer brown and used it as the stick, but I chose to go in the backyard and get a real stick. Either way works. I also added some moss to hide the styrofoam ball in the pot. I bought my bag of moss at Roberts as well.

I forgot to take a before picture of this frame. It was just an unfinished craft frame that I painted white. The print inside the frame can be found on my blog for free. You can get yours HERE. I used the biggest heart from the bag to go by the frame.

And there you have it! A very inexpensive way to decorate for Valentines Day!

Also, Roberts is having a GIVEAWAY on my blog so come and enter at Not JUST A Housewife!!!

Spot the Product

For today’s “Spot the Product” post, I wanted to talk about a small tool that is making a big impression on me.

The tool that I’m referring to is the Heart Attack distressing tool by We R Memory Keepers.

This is a little tool, but don’t let the size fool you, one swipe with this tool and you will be sold, just like I am.

The basics of the tool:
There is 3 pieces of sandpaper that has a sticky back on the back of the paper. That makes it so you can stick it to the tool. When the pieces of sandpaper are no longer sanding, peel off the sandpaper and attach another one to the tool. It's that easy!
2.
To To use the tool, you slip your finger into the holder and sand away. I find this tool works extremely well with the Core'dinations paper line that Roberts Crafts carries.
3.
There is a little blade in the top part of the heart that slides in and out, when you want to use it, just flip the switch and it comes out. You can use this little blade to scrape the edges of the paper. It gives your paper a distressed look. Have I already told you, I love this tool?

Now, for the example, I took a new line of Cuttlebug folders by Provo craft, and I placed them in the bottom half of a card that I made. I ran it through the Cuttlebug, and embossed the design on the card. I took off the folder, then used the Heart Attack tool and sanded off the top layer of the Core'dinations paper.

I have an American Crafts stamp set that I used for the greetings, then cut them out with the various punches.

Use pop dots to give the greetings dimension, and put a white liner in the card. Super easy! Super classy!

I hope you have a fun time playing around with you Heart Attack distresser. I’m off to play with mine.

Until then, Happy Crafting!

Storage and Organization Ideas

We are excited to feature a post by Leanne with the "Organize and Decorate Everything" blog this week!

"So where do you store all those little trinkets and collections your kids have? I found these cute little lunch box "look alikes" at Roberts Crafts and knew they would be perfect for my boys eraser collections. Then I found these cute boyish papers and knew they would match my boys rooms perfectly.

Start by tracing the shape of the box on the back of the scrapbook paper, then cut it out to fit the front and back of the box.

Use a glue stick to adhere the paper to the box.

And then use a little roller to make sure there's no bubbles and it's stuck down good.

To make the labels, trace some shapes you like onto the paper of your choice.

Cut them out , ink the edges, and stamp the label or you can write it if you have nice handwriting.

Attach the label to the front of the box with a glue stick and add any embellishments you'd like. Because these are for boys I didn't want them to be too fancy. I attached some gears used in scrapbooking to the handles with twine. Mod Podge over the scrapbook paper to protect it.

Here's one of the eraser collections.

I've been wanting to make one of these since last Summer when I was always running in the house to grab a band-aid. I plan on taking it outside, by the pool, just in case of emergencies once warm weather hits. This box is a little different, but you can find it in the same area. Start by wrapping paper around the box using a glue stick.

How cute is this paper? I'm using one of the frames as a label. Just cut it out.

Spell out your words using rub-ons. Then use a popsicle stick to rub it onto the paper. Always start in the middle and work out. That way you don't have to measure and it still comes out even. I added a ribbon around the top of the paper using hot glue.

Add your first aid supplies to the box.

And you have a portable "boo boo box".

These cute boxes can be used for so many things: recipe cards, craft supplies, trading cards, a gift full of beautiful cards, pictures. Really anything you can think of.
"
