Try It Thursday Videos

Happy Thursday everyone!! We missed last week's Try It Thursday videos. :( Youtube was being silly and  wouldn't let us upload them. Last week was a two part video showing how to make the most adorable cards using punches from Martha Stewart Punches.

Today's Try It Thursday video shows how to make those fantastic rosettes using the Tim Holtz dies that can be used with the Vagabond.

Happy Crafting!!

Vintage Images

If  you made it to the free make-n-take that Brett Lund did featuring this project:

Here are some more images  you can use to create this project at home! Just click the image and it will take you to where you can download the file. Simply print, then either cut them out OR use a 1" punch to easily punch them out. I made them slighter bigger than 1" square so you can punch them out without having to line the punch up precisely. I just found these images doing a Google image search using search terms like "summer vintage pictures", "vintage carnival images" and "vintage Dick and Jane images." I used photoshop to create them into the squares, but you could even just print the image off and use a punch on it.

Pop Can Alcohol Ink Earrings

Congratulations Kate!!! I've sent you an email, reply back to it with your info and we'll get your prize sent out to you.

I'll be posting the Freebie Friday giveaway in a little bit, so stay tuned! :D -Brie

Today on Studio 5, I demonstrated how to make earrings from the metal from a pop can.

Here is the supply list:

Vagabond Machine
Various Sizzix embossing folders
Pop cans
Alcohol inks & Alcohol ink applicator with felt squares
Various punches (I used the heart, circle and square from Martha Stewart Crafts)
Tim Holtz Tonic non-stick serrated scissors
20 gauge metal
Earring hooks

Here are the instructions:
Using the scissors and wearing gloves, cut the top and the bottom of the pop can off.
Cut down the center of the pop can opening it up so it lays flat.
Cut off a piece of aluminum can and flatten it out.
Place a clean, white piece of felt onto the applicator.
Place the nib of the alcohol ink into the applicator. Press for 2 seconds.
Repeat with no more than 2 colors. More than that, makes the colors too blended and creates a blended look that the colors are too mixed.
Randomly stamp the applicator on the piece of aluminum so not to create a pattern.
With alcohol inks, they dry almost instantly so you don’t need to wait very long for them to dry.
Continue to stamp completely over the entire piece of aluminum.
When the entire piece aluminum is covered, place it into the middle of the embossing folder.
Run the folder through your Vagabond machine. (Note: Because the metal is very thin, I put a piece of chipboard inside the folder to take some of pressure of the folder. This creates the embossed image on the metal but doesn’t make it ripped or torn.)
Take the embossed metal out of the folder, and using the punches, punch a shape out of the embossed metal.
Punch a hole in the shape.
Add the earring parts, and enjoy your creation.

Pinwheels by Barb Craft - Guest Post

Hi! I’m Barb from Crafty Girl and I am here to share a fun summer scrapbooking layout with you today!

To complete my layout, I used the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Kit and the Crop-A-Dile II.

I have a 9 year old daughter who is full of personality and is oh so willing to pose for a photo or two!! I
wanted to do a layout that captured her youth, yet wasn’t buried in the typical flowers that I normally
use on layouts. This is what I created….

I thought that the big pinwheel was youthful and fun and the perfect embellishment for this page! And
it was so simple to make! With a few quick steps, you can make one for your layouts and cards! Here is
how I did mine….

I started with a 4 inch x 4 inch square piece of patterned paper that had an accenting color on the
opposite side. (You only need one square for each pinwheel, I just wanted to show you the two sides.)
Take a ruler to draw straight lines from opposing corners.

Using scissors, cut on the lines to about ½ inch to the center. Do this with all four lines.

Using the Crop-A-Dile, I punched a hole where the two lines intersected at the center of the square. I
love that it reaches so much farther than the typical hole punch! It is perfect for these type of projects.

I also punched a hole in the corner of the triangles at the same spot on each one.

I folded each of the corners that had been punched to the center punched hole and attached it with an
eyelet. I used my Crop-A-Dile to secure it together.

When you are finished, your pinwheel will look like this! You can use different size squares depending
on the size of project you are working on! I finished mine off by threading some ribbon through it and
put the ribbon through the button! I also used my Crop-A-Dile for the eyelets on the banner.

I would love to show you more of my work! Feel free to stop by Crafty Girl, my blog where I share all my
creations! http://barbcraft.blogspot.com/

Guest Desiger - Jen from Craft-O-Maniac

My daughter has requested a Strawberry Shortcake
b-day party, I will do my best to make it SUPER "SWEET" I made these simple party favor bags from my Cricut.
I first picked up some fun strawberry looking polka dot card stock  paper at Roberts Crafts along with some green card stock paper.  I then used the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge at a 51/2 inch cut to cut out the goodie favor bags. I added green brads to the center of the hand cut leaves.
I will fill them with strawberry starburst, suckers, lipgloss, and some other strawberry themed goodies.
winks, jen

Thanks Jen, for such a cute project idea! I'm sure your daughter will LOVE and ADORE it!! Be sure to check out Jen's blog at http://craftomaniac.blogspot.com/. She always has amazing projects there. :) -Brie

4th of July Freebie Friday!

Congratulations Veronica!! I've sent you an email, reply back to it with your info and we'll get your prize sent out to you. :)

Thank you for entering everyone! Stay tuned for another one on Friday!

Is everyone ready for the big holiday weekend coming up? Roberts is SOO excited! We'll be having a huge 50% off everything sale on Monday from 11am - 4pm in all our stores. You won't want to miss that one! (The only exclusions are Cricut machines and the Sizzix Vagabond machine.) It's a great way to stock up on everything you need! We'll be posting an online sale as well, for our online shoppers!

As for me, I'll be putting on my Colonial garb to  help my family with an event they do every year at Scera Park in Orem, UT. It's become our family 4th of July tradition. They set up a whole colonial village with all kinds of artisans showing how the people who started our country lived, bakers will be selling the most delicious food, there's a colonial school that my daughter seriously spends the whole weekend in because she has so much fun there, and so many more activities! It's a great way to see how women "crafted" back in the day. My brother runs a military encampment that showcases uniforms and weaponry from the Revolutionary War up to the Civil War. That boy is insane, he HANDSEWS all of his period uniforms! Roberts was fantastic enough to donate paper for our calligrapher to write your name on in super fancy calligraphy. :) So if you're in the area, be sure to swing by and join in the fun! You might even get to see me dressed up. haha! The whole event is free, except for the food. When I'm not there, you'd better believe I'll be at the outdoor pool right next to the park, soaking up the sun!

I am seriously in AWE of the bobbin lace makers. They never cease to amaze me with what they create!

Learn the fine art of candle dipping!

Watch the calligrapher in action, fall in love with the skill, then go down the road to Roberts and get calligraphy supplies at 50% on Monday and start "calligraphing" yourself! :)

The kids get in on it. They LOVE dressing up!

Me and my boys.  :)

The blacksmith is amazing! It's so fun seeing what he can create with fired up metal.

Handmade wooden spoons, buckets, brooms, baskets . . . .It's truly amazing the things one can create!

What are your plans for the weekend? How do you celebrate our country?

For this week's Freebie Friday, we're celebrating by giving away these two GORGEOUS leather albums from We R Memory Keepers. 12x12" RED and BLUE!
